Meanwhile II

I saw the exhibition 'Meanwhile II: Subtle interventions by: Susan Collis, Oona Culley, Daniel Eatock, Cadi Froehlich, Janne Malmros, Trevor H. Smith' a while ago now, whilst working at the Hartley Library, University of Southampton. There is a gallery on level 4, which regularly hosts either art or history exhibitions.

You'll have to forgive the images as they could be much better, however I think my camera battery for the light meter has run out and I just didn't notice, and relied on it a bit too much. This exhibition was hard to capture anyway, as most of the pieces were light in colour and some contained barely-there details.

I think what I took away from this, was that there can be a kind of subtlety that is very appropriate in relation to some areas of artwork. The exhibition was based around the themes of removal, omission, deconstruction. Sometimes what the work was about was the object which was missing or no longer present. Coffee/tea mug stains on a table are reminiscent of times past and conversations lost, words are barely impressed upon paper, and drawings are made by absent marks or gaps.

Showing absence in work is something which is hard to do, so the variety of ways in which this had been done was inspiring.

EAT YOUR HEART OUT 2012

At the end of October, I went to see the Eat Your Heart Out expo at St. Bart Pathology Museum.
It was great to see all of the creations, however I wished that more of the cakes had been created by Artists, rather than bakers, as I thought it would have added more variety.

There was a ceramicist there who had created some great plates though.

Also served were some gruesome looking cocktails, some of which made me feel a bit queasy.

The expo definitely inspired me to create more using cake.

Below are some photos of the cakes, plates and cocktails:

The expo worked well within the backdrop of the Pathology museum, below are some pictures of the museum:

Winchester School of Art Fine Art MA Show 2012

I finally got some pictures developed which I took at the WSA Fine Art MA degree show this year. Unfortunately the film got very wet as I was stuck in a storm a couple of weeks ago, I dried it out but the pictures came out very spotty!

Anyway, a lot of the work was video, which I didn't really relate to, but there was also a limited amount of painting and sculpture.

The above were all by the same artist: Wendy Joyce, I was a particular fan of the silver plated leaf

There were cupcakes in the refreshment area, they tasted pretty good, but didn't seem to have much artistic significance.

 This painting was by Lloyd

Okay, so not an art piece, but I was a fan of the flower and milk installation in the sink
